What Does Electrical Work Cost in Sarasota-Bradenton? (2026 Price Guide)
Published January 20, 2026 • 7 min read • By Donny McGuire
The number one question I get from homeowners is "what is this going to cost?" And I get it — nobody likes surprises on a bill. So here are realistic price ranges for the most common electrical jobs I do in the Sarasota-Bradenton area in 2026.
I want to be upfront: these are ranges, not fixed prices. Every home is different. A panel upgrade in a house with easy attic access is going to cost less than one in a two-story home where everything is buried in walls. But these numbers will give you a solid idea of what to expect when you start getting quotes.
Outlet and Switch Installation
New outlet installation: $150 to $250 per outlet
This covers running a new circuit or tapping into an existing one, cutting in the box, running the wire, and installing the outlet. GFCI outlets (required in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoor areas) are at the higher end of that range because the devices themselves cost more.
USB outlet upgrade: $75 to $125 per outlet
Replacing a standard outlet with one that has built-in USB ports is a quick job since the wiring is already there. Popular in kitchens and bedrooms.
Dimmer switch installation: $75 to $150 per switch
Replacing a standard toggle switch with a dimmer. If you are switching to LED lighting, make sure you get an LED-compatible dimmer installed at the same time.
Electrical Panel Upgrades
100-amp to 200-amp panel upgrade: $1,800 to $3,500
This is the most common panel job I do. Older Sarasota homes with 100-amp panels need more capacity for modern electrical loads — AC systems, pool pumps, EV chargers, and everything else we plug in today. The price depends on whether the meter base needs to be replaced, how many circuits need to be moved over, and any code upgrades required. Read more about the warning signs that you need a panel upgrade.
Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel replacement: $2,000 to $4,000
These are the panels that have known safety issues. Replacing them is essentially the same work as a standard panel upgrade, but sometimes the old panels are in rough shape and the surrounding wiring needs extra attention. Visit our panel upgrade service page for more details.
Subpanel installation: $800 to $1,800
A subpanel is useful when you need more circuits in a specific area — a detached garage, a pool house, or a workshop. The cost depends on the amperage and the distance from the main panel.
Whole-House Rewiring
Typical home (1,200 to 2,000 sq ft): $8,000 to $15,000
Rewiring replaces all the old wiring in your home with new copper wiring. The price is driven by the size of the home, the number of circuits, accessibility (single-story with attic access is easier than two-story), and how much drywall repair is needed. Check out my article on signs your home needs rewiring. Full details on our rewiring service page.
Pool Cage Lighting
Small to medium cage (150 to 250 linear feet): $2,500 to $5,000
Large cage (300+ linear feet, multi-zone): $5,000 to $10,000+
Pool cage lighting cost depends on the total footage of beams in your cage, the number of zones you want (separate color control for different areas), the quality of the LED strips and controllers, and the electrical run from your panel. I have a complete guide to pool cage lighting with more details, and you can see our work on the pool cage lighting service page.
EV Charger Installation
Level 2 charger installation (labor only): $500 to $1,500
This is the electrical work — running the 240V circuit from your panel to the charger location. The charger unit itself is typically $300 to $700, which you can purchase yourself or I can source for you. The total project cost is usually $800 to $2,200. Distance from the panel to the charger and whether a panel upgrade is needed are the biggest cost drivers. More in my EV charger installation guide and on the EV charger service page.
Outdoor and Landscape Lighting
Basic landscape lighting package (6 to 10 fixtures): $1,500 to $3,000
Full property landscape lighting (15+ fixtures): $3,500 to $8,000+
Landscape lighting includes path lights, uplights for trees, accent lights for architecture, and any needed wiring and transformers. The range is wide because a simple set of path lights along a walkway is very different from a full property lighting design with uplighting on every palm tree and accent lighting on the house. Visit our outdoor lighting service page or read my outdoor lighting ideas article.
Ceiling Fan Installation
Replace existing fan: $100 to $200
New fan with new wiring: $250 to $450
If there is already a fan box and wiring in place, swapping out the fan is quick. If you want a fan where there is currently just a light fixture (or no fixture at all), it requires installing a fan-rated box and possibly running new wiring, which costs more.
Whole-House Surge Protection
Installed: $300 to $500
A whole-house surge protector installs at your electrical panel and protects every circuit in your home from power surges. In Florida, where lightning is a daily summer event, this is one of the most cost-effective things you can do. More on this in my storm safety article.
Generator Installation
Manual transfer switch (for portable generator): $500 to $1,000
Standby generator (installed): $5,000 to $15,000+
A manual transfer switch lets you safely connect a portable generator to your panel. A standby generator (Generac, Kohler, etc.) includes the generator unit, automatic transfer switch, fuel connection, and concrete pad. Price varies significantly by generator size. More in my generator guide for hurricane season and on the generator service page.
Why Prices Vary
If you are wondering why the ranges above are wide, here are the main factors:
- Wire run distance. The farther the wire has to travel from the panel to where the work is, the more it costs. Wire is expensive, and longer runs take more time.
- Accessibility. A single-story home with a clear attic is much easier to work in than a two-story with no attic access. Easier access means less labor time.
- Panel capacity. If your panel is full and you need a new circuit, you may need a panel upgrade or subpanel before the new work can happen.
- Permits. Most electrical work requires a permit in Sarasota and Manatee counties. Permit fees are usually $50 to $200 depending on the scope of work, and I include them in my quotes.
- Materials. Copper prices fluctuate. Wire, panels, breakers, and fixtures are all materials costs that affect the final price.
